Seroepidemiological Study, on Japanese Encephalitis in ROKA and Taegu Area, 1967

Abstract
During the three months from August to October, 1967, Japanese encephalitis epidemics occurred in Korea. A series of Hemagglutination-Inhibition test(H-I test) were carried out for the serodiagnosis of Japanese encephalitis in ROKA and in several civilian hospitals located in Taegu area, and the results were obtained as follows:
1. Japanese encephalitis showed the high incidence from the last ten days of August to the first ten days of September. Out of 43 suspected cases(4 soldiers and 39 civilians) of Japanese encephalitis. 35 cases (81.4%) were positive for H-I test(2 army cases and 33 civilians), and the rate of fatality was 20%.
2. In civilian cases of Japanese encephalitis, the ratio of male and female was about 3:1, age distribution was 2-15 years old(average was 8. 1), and the oldest one was 29 years old soldier.
3. In most positive cases, H-I antibody titer against the blood specimens showed more than 1:160 after seventh day of disease.
